What is preventative maintenance?
• Preventative maintenance is the planned monitoring of equipment on a regular basis, regardless of current operational status, to red- uce the risk of sudden stoppages or unexpected faults.
• This approach is more complex and time consuming than reactive or corrective maintenance, where in- tervention only occurs after a ma- chine has developed an issue, but in the long run it can result in signi- ficant cost savings and valuable im- provements in efficiency and safety.

There has also been a renewed focus on equipment maintenance and aftermarket service – with food manufacturers looking to save money, ensure production continuity and mitigate the impact of economic uncertainty on their businesses.
As such, food producers should look to adopt preventative main- tenance strategies which can help them avoid unexpected shutdowns, while optimizing the operation of their equipment for improved uptime, throughput, product quality and food safety.
