This enables us to not only be as ef- ficient as possible, but directly work and contract with our stevia farming partners. PureCircle provides training programs for its farmers. We can trace our stevia ingredients all the way back to the farming communities, help- ing our customers understand exactly where their ingredients originated, and ensure full compliance with ethi- cal sourcing practices.
PureCircle offers the broadest stevia ingredient portfolio maximizing what we extract from each leaf, and reduc- ing waste material.
AMEFT: Ingredion has acquired an exclusive license to sell and market Amyris’s Reb M. Does it involve ste- via leaf extract? Could you tell us more about the product and its spe- cialties?
Nate Yates: Fermented Sugarcane Reb M is nature identical to Rebaudio- side M, a naturally occurring molecule in the stevia leaf. The source mate- rial for Fermented Sugarcane Reb M is sugarcane. We use our proprietary fermentation technology to convert sugarcane into the same molecule, Reb M, that exists in the stevia leaf.

that can be used as part of a healthy diet to reduce intake of sugar, calories and carbohydrates.
AMEFT: How do you see stevia from PureCircle will change the sweetener industry?
Nate Yates: Taste will always be the deciding factor for food and beverage formulations. What PureCircle by Ingre- dion’s formulation experts have been able to do is utilize plant-based, zero calorie stevia ingredients without having to compromise on taste performance.
We are introducing new stevia tech- nologies, which advance better tasting ingredients with greater affordability. Lowering cost in use and democratiz- ing sugar reduction, creates greater access to sugar reduced products at lower price points.
Our Fermented Sugarcane Reb M, and other rare ingredients found in the stevia plant are now more acces- sible and affordable for food and bev- erage companies of all sizes across categories.
The product mix is no longer strictly produced through traditional leaf ex- traction. Producing rare stevia ingre- dients, like Reb M, via leaf extraction alone could not be done sustainably in quantities needed for global brands.
