Dear Reader,
Ali Afsal, Publisher & Editorial Director
There is a disruption in the food segment. The way we ‘eat’ is changing. In the near future, our current conventions about food would probably be obsolete and even branded ‘uncivilized’ by the Gen Alpha and those beyond. Slaughterhouses may become the thing of past. While reading this digital issue of AMEFT, these signs of change could be observed. The years we are stepping in are in the formative days of a new era.
An era, where people are concerned more about the planet and health than other factors. They ask for traceability of not only the food they buy, but also the materials and the process that go in to the manufacturing, production, transporta- tion and other aspects of the cycle. Surveys conducted by various market research agencies and giant food companies reveal that people are eagerly looking for appealing food options from the planet-friendly, vegan, flexitarian, and halal food segments. Thought leaders in the food industries are giving ideas and choices for guilt-free eating and healthy and nutritious food selections.
Yet another interesting reflection in this issue is the flow of money from east to west. European food giants are striking gold in the Arab markets. Be it apples, cheese, or food processing machineries, all are been warmly welcomed by the Asian market. Read the pages ahead to get further exciting market news that justifies these reflections.
The current issue also gives an insight into the major events to be held in the coming days like Bakery China in April (Shanghai), Propak Asia in June (Bangkok), Fi Global Connect in April, June and September (virtual), Tuttofood & HOST (Milan), Anufood India (Mumbai), Thaifex-Anuga Asia (Thailand) and SIAL Middle East (Abu Dhabi), all in the third quarter of 2021.
Last but not the least, one major cause for all these changes is the omnipres- ent pandemic. It is paving way to a more devout food culture. The quest continues as industry experts are seeking ways to strike chord with multiple demands like ‘evolved taste’, ‘high nutritional values’, and finally the novel call for ‘food that’s grown not born’.
Hope the content in this edition gives you a true insight into the transforming food world. Happy reading!
