 Chocolate pie
Barry Callebaut tops the sustainability ranking
The Zurich-based Barry Callebaut Group, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high-quality choco- late and cocoa products – from sourc- ing and processing cocoa beans to pro- ducing the finest chocolates, including chocolate fillings, decorations and com- pounds, has been ranked by Sustaina- lytics as the ‘Number 3’ out of 203 com- panies in the packaged food industry.
For the third consecutive year, Sus- tainalytics has recognized Barry Cal- lebaut as an industry leader in the management of the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) risks in our supply chain. Barry’s position in the top 3 once again confirms that it is a leader not only in the chocolate and cocoa sector, but also in comparison to its peers in the broader food industry.

earnings over time and create long- term value for all stakeholders. It is dedicated to running all its operations with transparency and integrity, which includes reporting on its ESG management and risks.
It openly reported its challenges in its supply chain in order to make sustainable chocolate the norm by 2025, such as ending deforestation and eradicating child labor in its sup- ply chain.
Taryn Ridley, External Affairs Manag- er, Corporate Communications, Barry Callebaut says about how Barry enga- gesits stakeholders on ESG, “There are many stakeholders in the cocoa value chain.
Regular dialogue with our stakehold- ers is critical to identify the key ESG issues our business faces and our ap- proach to tackle these issues. This is why we conduct every three years a materiality assessment with stakehold-
ers such as customers, farmer cooper- atives, investors, media, governments, industry associations, multi-stakehold- er initiatives, NGO’s and our employ- ees.”
“In addition, this year we hosted our first dedicated ESG Investor Road- show with our CFO, Ben De Schryver, and Chief Innovation, Sustainability & Quality Officer, Global Head of Gour- met, Pablo Perversi, to present and discuss ESG topics with some of our interested investors.
Participating annually in Sustain- alytics provides a solid and well re- spected third-party assessment of our investments in sustainability”, she added Sustainalytics, which ranked Barry as one of the topper, is a leading company assessing the industry’s efforts to manage the environmental, social and egover- nance management risks in supply chains.
