Plant-based – healthy, delicious, sustainable products
The market share for plant-based products has recently displayed dou- ble-digit growth, while forecasts pro- ject further growth of up to 14% in this product category until 2024. A grow- ing number of people have turned to vegetarian diets, or are avoiding ani- mal ingredients completely. As part of a modern and healthy lifestyle, consu- mers are also adapting their nutrition to ensure it is sustainable. Doehler has a pioneering portfolio of sustainab- ly produced raw materials, certified by Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance and UTZ, as well SAI/FSA, among others. The close collaboration with local far- mers when it comes to procurement of raw materials is equally as impor- tant to Doehler as is the development and establishment of sustainable and fair cultivation conditions for the local workers.
With the global population forecast to grow to 10 billion by the year 2050, plant-based food and beverages are the sustainable sources of nutrition from which both humans and the pla- net can benefit. Consumption of these products is not only sustainable and generates less CO2 which can harm the climate, but the cultivation areas can be used more effectively and pro- vide greater yield than fields used for animal grazing areas.
Although many consumers are in- terested in plant-based foods, the de- mands on foods and beverages are be- coming ever more complex. Alongside sustainable procurement and proces- sing, health promotion and support, the products should also generate an excellent taste sensation.
Doehler has developed a wide ran- ge of concepts based on almond, nut, seed, cashew or coconut, which are used to supply fats and to create a cre- amy mouthfeel. These products are particularly well-suited for use in des- serts and chocolate, as well as dairy- free products.
Doehler also has alcohol-stable and dairy-free coconut, almond and soy in- gredients to create creamy and indul-

Ensuring performance
Traditionally, in India, milk is pa- ckaged in pouches, glass bottles, or cartons. By choosing Sidel’s aseptic PET packaging technology, RJ Corp has widened packaging options for its LDP products. The brand-new PET bottle assures high food quality standards and outstanding customer experiences, along with PET being a cost-efficient and sustainable mate- rial. During the implementation of the packaging line, Sidel also shared their experience in PET packaging and helped design the new PET bottle, enabling the same shapes and caps to be used for both Cream Bell UHT milk and the Tropicana juices. The capsize for all bottle formats is 33 mm, which is a common width for LDP, but qui- te uncommon for juices. As a result, Sidel’s packaging experts developed

and designed an iconic bottle shape in three formats – 200 ml, 500 ml and 1 L. All of the bottle shapes and for- mats have been qualified internally. Sidel also designed specific preforms to reach optimized bottle weight in or- der to withstand the dry preform steri- lization technology and avoid any ther- mal stresses on the bottle. Produced in white monolayer barrier PET, the new packaging ensures a shelf life of up to nine months for UHT milk. Furthermo- re, all the transparent Tropicana juice bottles passed the demanding PepsiCo validation protocols.
Taking into account the good ex- perience and satisfaction with Sidel’s complete aseptic packaging solution installation in Punjab, Varun Beve- rages Ltd. again chose Sidel for the exact same scope of supply for a diffe- rent plant, located in Central-Eastern India.
